Biography:

We Swim You Jump is not about sports, it's about songs.

Sommige dingen gaan snel. Terwijl de eerste optredens al in de agenda stonden, moest de bandnaam nog bedacht worden. Zanger en gitarist Richard had enkele nummers geschreven en nam ze samen met toetsenist en zanger Niek op. De opnames en de aanstaande optredens vroegen om een band. De bevriende muzikanten Bas (gitaar), Maarten (drum) en Bas (bas) beantwoordden aan die vraag en maakten de band compleet.

We Swim You Jump was geboren en geworden tot een formatie van mannen met een verleden in Jimmy Barock, Flux, My Sister Harold, Marat en JetSetReady; mannen vanuit verschillende muzikale hoeken, maar allen waren ze invloedrijk in het fascinerende palet van de Groninger muziekscene.

Bij We Swim You Jump gaat het vooral om de songs; rijk opgebouwde en beklijvende nummers die de band laat scharen in de hoek van gelijkgestemden als The Posies, Nada Surf en Elliott Smith. Net als deze voorbeelden, maakt We Swim You Jump bloedmooie, melodieuze songs waarvan het bewijs te horen is op de titelloze EP. Die EP zorgde voor het eerste optreden van de band, op het prestigieuze Noorderzonfestival. Kort daarna vertrokken de heren naar Duitsland voor meerdere shows in Berlijn (o.a. Schokoladen) en Hamburg. Terug in Groningen was er een optreden in Vera en speelden ze samen met het Deense Slaraffenland.

Met de optredens en de nummers wist We Swim You Jump de aandacht te trekken van Subroutine Records. Dit label is blij om met de stadgenoten van We Swim You Jump samen te mogen werken en nemen de promotie van de EP op zich

Bright Sparks: We Swim You Jump - Sharks EP

Another little gem from the Subroutine Records label and proof once again, that Holland really does have a fine underground music scene going on at the moment. We Swim You Jump take some Elliott Smith vocal stylings and stick them on top of some wonderfully catchy pop hooks. The arrangements are really clever too and there’s a lot more than the bog standard three chord indie-pop blather going on here. Check out the intricate guitars in Sparks Fade Out and the oh so wonderful nah nah nah sections of 1234 especially. All in all this is the kind of EP that just fills us with excitement. It’s the sound of a band full of promise, and if they can kick into gear and produce a long-player of the same quality as this, then we’ll all be better off for it. We Swim, You Jump. I’ll be watching.
